AN AMERICAN CRAFT

Whirligigs have a long history in American gardens, where simple mechanics turn the wind into movement. Ours are made one at a time by Vermont luthier Clayton Pledger, who brings an instrument maker’s attention to balance, proportion and wood.

Built from poplar and painted by hand, each is a contemporary take on an old American form.
